What Are Your Role Models Doing Right Now?

Many dreamers have people they look up to. Aspiring footballers have professional footballers. Aspiring game developers have successful game developers. Aspiring music artists have successful music artists.

And a good number of those dreamers… would like to be like their role models.

But the important question to ask is… to what extent?

Do you have someone who inspires you to pursue success? What about them inspires you? The amount of money they have accumulated? The nice houses and cars they were able to buy? The lifestyle they acquired as a result of some goal they accomplished?

Or…

Their ability to not be held down by the failures they experience? Their relentless persistence in making sure that they get their yearly goals accomplished? Their commitment to making progress every single day will inevitably add up to their overall success?

What do you think it will take to bridge the gap between who you are and who they are?

I sincerely hope you ask yourself these kinds of questions if you are determined to accomplish your own goals/dreams. It is questions like these that reveal the truth behind why someone is the way they are, why someone does what they do and why someone gets the results they get.

If you want to be like the successful… you have to do and think like the successful.

If you want to be like the mediocre… you have to do and think like the mediocre.

If you want to be like the defeated… you have to do and think like the defeated.

Nothing is more responsible for a person’s success than his/her own thoughts and actions.

If you had the choice to choose between thinking about ways you could excel from your current position…. or thinking about ways you are being held back by your current life situation… which would you choose and why?

And before you answer, keep in mind that it was a choice.

If you are curious to find out whether you are getting closer or further from the life you truly want… just take a look at your thoughts and actions today.

Then take a look at your thoughts and actions yesterday.

Make a guess what your day will be like tomorrow if you maintain the same thoughts and actions.

NOW…

Let’s think about your role models. Let’s try to imagine ourselves in their lives.

Let’s see if we can use the same technique to find out whether they are getting close or further from the life they have always wanted. But this time, let us just look at action alone.

Try to think about the actions they have been taking for the past 5 years.

Take a look at the actions they are taking today.

Now try to predict what they will be doing in the next 5 years if they maintain the same actions.

What do you see?

Compare your typical Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday… to their days.

If they stopped what they were doing to follow exactly how you think and take action every day… and if you stopped doing what you are doing to follow exactly how they think and take action every day… what would be the result?

What result would you get from following their way of life…

What result would they get from following your way of life…

I know that many of us feel that pursuing success is hard. But I’m not sure we always understand why exactly.

The most important discovery I have made so far in trying to understand the causes of failure and success for people… is that it is largely a matter of how one thinks… and how one acts on those thoughts.

This is why I believe the gateway to personal achievement… is self-awareness… and self-development.

First, know yourself… before you can change yourself.
